Food, wine, history, culture, outdoor activities; the Poitou-Charente region has something to interest everyone. Scenic villages are around every corner. For animal lovers, there's a wealth of nature to see, from the annual migration of the cranes, to the Vallee des Singes at Romagne, and the horse-drawn Caleche rides right here in the hamlet of Le Puynard.
The region is steeped in history from the Roman ruins at Chassenon, the spectacular Chateau at La Rochefaucauld, to the magnificent cities of Limoges and Poitiers. Wine and food lovers are spoilt for choice with fabulous local restaurants, local produce in abundance, and of course, the world famous Cognac region within an hours drive.
For kids, there's the modernity of Futuroscope close to Poitiers, the Vallee Des Singes just down the road at Romagne, and the Cartoon Museum at Angouleme. Dog walkers, hikers and cyclists can take advantage of the beautiful scenery, quiet roads and paths through fields of wheat and sunflowers in the summer, and shady leafy lanes in the spring and autumn.
